• Hi Folks,

I have had a look and there seem to be plenty of people having problems with this one… I tried all the ‘remedies’ to get this going again, but still can’t get the ‘Visual’ tab and the associated ‘toolbar’ to appear. I even did a fresh install, after removing all the files and folders (except for the ‘content’ folder, and after de-activating all the plugins except Akismet. WordPress-Move trashed and ‘white-paged’ a 70-odd post blog with loads of images, so I had to start all over again.

Needless to say, I do have a good copy on my localhost running MAMP, and I’m tediously copying and pasting everything over. For this, the text mode is good, but when I want to post a new blog (generally with lots of pictures), I don’t want to have to generate it on the localhost and then copy it over to the live host every time.

Interesting is that the text editor is also the only one available on the iPhone WP-portal, too! I’ve tried everything put forward up to now, all to no avail, including new users with Admin rights etc.

HELP!! Anyone got a real tip that works on this one??

    Thanks, Peter

    I’ll let you know…

So It’s all there, nothing working. Perhaps I should also have kept the index.php??

Whatever. How do I get it going again (install) for dummies, remember!

Well, this is getting out of my league, but you can try going into the wp-content and deactivating all the plugins by changing the name on the plugins folder to “pluginsHOLD”

Also go into the themes folder and change the name on your active theme to similar – forcing WP to use the default theme (twentytwelve – assuming you do have an unmodified copy of that theme in that folder).

OK, So it’s a major re-install, with loss of all blogs and pages (I did rename the content-folder though… I should probably also have kept the old ‘index.php’, too but no one has said that anywhere else…), so it’s copy-paste, rename-all-links, copy-paste all over again + all of the tags and categories…!
Maybe even the visual editor will work this time?? Hope so!

Can anyone tell me where the bloglist and pages and text are kept?? I can find all the pictures, of course…

I also tried the above edit of the config file to no avail (it just takes longer to load the text-editing row of icons.

    Completely baffled!

    Thanks for all your help

    Peter ??

So it’s a major re-install, with loss of all blogs and pages

No. Most of your content is in your database and will be completely unaffected. All you are doing is returning WordPress to a “vanilla” state by deactivating all plugins and using the current default theme in order to try & locate your issue.

    (@classicbikenut)

Thanks esmi, Yes, I re-loaded the database and renamed the content directory back to what it should have been and it worked, as I said above… BUT the visual edit is still not there, so I can’t update with the phone (That takes over the same ‘settings’) and the updates are a pain in html, so I’ll be going through all the steps mentioned previously, entering the blogs on my localhost first etc. PITA. Any idea why this is happening? It works fine on the localhost! Now you can actually have a look at the site and you’ll see why I don’t want to do it all in text… https://www.classicbikenut.com, if you don’t mind!
    ??

Try adding define('SCRIPT_DEBUG', true);to the bottom of your wp-config.php file (just before the require_once line).

    (@classicbikenut)

You will also, no doubt, be able to answer my other question… you know how, when you are on a page, the title is highligted in the ‘menu’ of the header? Well, when in a blog, and I have them all listed by title on the widget on the right… I would love to have the title of the blog that is being read also ‘lit up’ in the same way as when i mouseover it… Is that possible?

Wher can I find code to add a simple ‘previous/next’ button or buttons to the blogs, instead of going to the top and looking through the ‘archives’??

    HELP!!

    Thread Starter ClassicBikeNut

    (@classicbikenut)

    I did that, did nuffink.

Just made loding of the page slower altogether (I feel that it was ‘waiting’ to load the text-editing ‘bar’)…

You will also, no doubt, be able to answer my other question

These need to be dealt with in a separate topic as they are not directly related to this one.

And I am still see multiple active plugins on your site. Plus you are not yet using the default 2012 theme.

    Thread Starter ClassicBikeNut

    (@classicbikenut)

That is true. I have tried 2012 BEFORE installing the plugins and the problem was still there, so I just went ahead and installed my present theme anyway, which also uses Akismet, Google Analytics and WP photo Album Plus. Nothing else. As I said, this configuration runs fine on my Mac with MAMP and an identical database content and setup.

And this particular site looks shite in 20-12, so even if it worked, I wouldn’t be using it… maybe for another one, but not for this one.

I re-named the plugin folders in the content directory before I loaded that, just in case. Even with the naked installed content folder (but using my database) and 20-12, there was no visual editor…

    Weird!

this particular site looks shite in 20-12

At this point, that’s immaterial. The change may only be temporaty. There is no magic bullet in these situations. This is just the start of basic troubleshooting and is a process of elimination deliberately designed to locate the root cause as quickly as possible by first removing the most obvious and common culprits via a series of (often) temporary steps.

Can you try resetting the plugins using the Phpmyadmin method? That’s sometimes needed for especially vampiric plugins.
