• Hi Folks,

I have had a look and there seem to be plenty of people having problems with this one… I tried all the ‘remedies’ to get this going again, but still can’t get the ‘Visual’ tab and the associated ‘toolbar’ to appear. I even did a fresh install, after removing all the files and folders (except for the ‘content’ folder, and after de-activating all the plugins except Akismet. WordPress-Move trashed and ‘white-paged’ a 70-odd post blog with loads of images, so I had to start all over again.

Needless to say, I do have a good copy on my localhost running MAMP, and I’m tediously copying and pasting everything over. For this, the text mode is good, but when I want to post a new blog (generally with lots of pictures), I don’t want to have to generate it on the localhost and then copy it over to the live host every time.

Interesting is that the text editor is also the only one available on the iPhone WP-portal, too! I’ve tried everything put forward up to now, all to no avail, including new users with Admin rights etc.

HELP!! Anyone got a real tip that works on this one??

    Thanks, Peter

I would gladly give you access, but not post details on the public forum!!
The hierarchy is correct. Domain is classicbikenut.com, httpdocs is the /depository for all other stuff there, so my /OZcommerce (in a folder) and the WP scattered on the top level, documents and folders.

No, nothing works, which is why I’m so worried… the file structure is of course only possible with ftp anyway…or my admin-portal. So why is the /login.php not accessible, when I can see that it is there? I’m looking at it right now!

    /login.php?loggedout=true doesn’t work either.
It would seem that the database either needs to be ‘installed’ or ‘initiated’ again… as if it were an engine that needs restarting. Is there a way of getting it going again without having to completely renew everything that I have done before?

    (@classicbikenut)

I presumably need to do that in phpMyAdmin??

It might be worth checking with your hosting company – just in case it’s the server…

It’s not usual that reinstalling WP (except) wp-content would result in white screen. Did you delete first all files/folder EXCEPT the wp-content and then replace with new copies from a new download of WP?

    Thread Starter ClassicBikeNut

    (@classicbikenut)

NO! I had already clicked the ‘put’ on the ftp before I realised that I should have deleted the two folders first. Then it was too late…
I ONLY uploaded the admin and includes folders, nothing else. Last time I did a full install (except the contents folder) I still had to start all over.

The server is fine, I’m working on it and accessing other files and folders right now, and the SQL is also open and no problem with browsing etc.

    I’m at my wits end!

Should I really do that? Surely I would also have to keep my config file, too?

Yeah, keep the config. Yes, that’s what I would try – at least to get it up again – the visual editor is a different issue (obviously).

    (@classicbikenut)

Maybe I should do it again? But then I risk having to star all over, surely/ (it’s what it looks like now already, I suppose…)

So, for dummies: I dlete everything except the ‘content’ folder and the ‘config.php’ file.
    THEN re-upload a fresh WP
    THEN… fresh install??
Surely that will trash everything again… new passwords etc, so the owners change on the folders etc = complete chaos?

Yeah, looks that way – sorry to say.

    Wait, we cross posted…

Download a new copy of WP to your local computer. Then delete files and folders on the server except wp-content – and replace those from the new copy (don’t overwrite wp-content).

    wp-config keep yes.

    (@classicbikenut)

Why would anyone suggest releoading the two folders as a ‘fix’, without warning that everything that already have will be lost and that you have to start all over again?? Surely that is relevant?

It does not usually do that – that’s what’s puzzling about your set-up/situation.

So there is still a chance that it will work againg (pick up where I left off) afterwards? That would be fine! ??
