• Okay, I integrated a WYSWIG editor into both WordPress 1.0.2 and 1.2. It’s the typical “Microsoft Word”- look-a-like interface. You can see a screenshot at https://mudbomb.com
The editor works with any platform, as long as you’re using Internet Explorer 5.5 or newer; Mozilla 1.3 Beta or newer; or one of the recent Gecko-based browsers.
Give it a try and let me know what you think ??

Hmmm… this must be some problem in your WordPress install. I tried copying and pasting from your site, but I couldn’t reproduce the ?? problem. When I copy, paste, and publish, everything looks as it should…
If you’re using a nightly build, you might try switching to the “official” 1.2 release.

I’m using the “official” release. I’ve got a couple more things to check. I’m thinking it’s coming somewhere from the code on my old site, but I don’t know.
I really don’t want to have to re-write all that code! ??

    What’s rar?
    I know tar.
But how do install a rar? And where are the install directions online?

Need help with installing textarea on my wordpress blog.
    Any volunteers?

I’m having a problem with the install of this hack. The install process sure is simple enough but once I upload the htmlarea directory and overwrite the original edit-form-advanced.php file, I don’t see the wysiwyg icons.
I’m using WP 1.2 with the wysiwyg hack 1.2 rar and have checked it out after install both in Firefox v 0.9 and IE v6.
Any ideas? I’m probably just missing something simple?
    TIA for help

A look at my error logs solved my problem. I had put the htmlarea dir into the general wp directory not where it is supposed to go – into the wp-admin folder. Doh !!! and double Doh !!!
    Very nice hack – thanks

Great plugin, just a couple of suggestions…
    1) Option for using strong, em, etc. instead of inline styles.
    2) A zip version of the download. This was the first RAR i’ve encountered in at least year and I had to track down and install something to open it.

I have a strange problem with using this hack… if I put in some text, then a list, then some text again, the text after the list is not formatted properly. From viewing the source it looks like the first instances of text get put inside paragraph tags, while the text after a list does not… if I add another bit of text, it comes back to normal, as seen here:
    https://www.cosmopoetica.com/blog/archives/2001/07/19/testing-htmlarea-redux/
(I posted under this old date so the entry would not show at the top of the front page!)

    Got it.
Works really well on Firefox .9.2
    Love it

I like this hack! Thanks a lot.

I’ve been using this plugin for a few weeks now and just realized something. When I edit a post that I originally wrote with the default WP editor, it strips out all of the paragraph breaks. I don’t even have to edit the content, just click on “Edit” for the post and WHAM! bye-bye paragraph breaks, hello big block of run-on text.
Not too cool. I’m going back to default.

Great hack, and your mudbomb site is a great looking site. I have a question though? in this article, https://mudbomb.com/archives/2004/06/05/ladies-gentlemen-the-president-of-the-united-states/, (and I love the article), how did you create the “quote” area like that?
    Thanks for any advice.

hey i would love to add this to my site it would help out my non-nerdy users supe up their posts… anyways it does not work at all with a mac… Safari i got the error Camino i couldn’t type at all and IE for mac it didn’t show up at all? Any-word on mac support? Has anyone with a mac gotten this to work or is it just me???

Hm. I’m not getting any P tags at all, just line breaks.
Might I have set something else so that I don’t get P tags between paragraphs?

Joe , thanks for this pluging
Just wondering, can iu comment the code so I can install another version instead of htmlarea beta 3 ?
    and, 2 otrhers things:
    * Image manager integration : can this be done? how ?
    * word cleanner: I read on htmlarea site, and version 3 has a function to clean word format when you paste text, but can find it on yours version
    T.I.A.
