I’m importing the content from a WordPress.com site to a new, temp-domain .org using the WXR and WP-native import and export tools. It imported the one page and 12 categories just fine, but did only 3 of the 112 posts (84 published, 28 draft) and then just stopped. Should I uncheck “import media” and try again – or will that create duplicates and other hell-chaos?

Try exporting smaller groups of the posts. In the exporter, you can limit it to a specific year or month.

Thanks, I’ll try that. So do you think I need to *remove* that stuff that has already imported – like the 3 posts and the categories – from the smaller groups?

The importer won’t duplicate content, so you shouldn’t need to remove anything that has already been imported.

Gosh, that went SO well! I did it in seven batches, and the importer didn’t spill a drop and did not make any dupes or other hell-chaos (I had read one account of a guy’s categories importing as posts, so I was leery of making any faux oops). Many thanks!
