• I’m having trouble with the Import/Export function for my WXR file. It seems to export ok, but whenever I try to import it into another WordPress System it reverses the order of the posts and won’t properly maintain the author information or dates. So I have 5,000 posts going back 10 years, but it imports in chronological order so all of my recent posts are completely out of order and it timestamps the date on all the posts with today’s date and my user id for the author stamp. When I export, I use the all authors option and on import I click the maintain author checkbox. I tried all the various combinations and simply can’t get it to work.

  • I just exported a 2.6.2 blog and then imported that into another 2.6.2 blog and the date information was the same as the original posts. Can’t attest to the author info as both blogs had just one author.

You might want to create, in the new blog, the users that are authors in the old blog and try the import again.

The ‘chronological’ nature should not be an issue, meaning it should not matter (my assumption there) what order the posts get imported, as long as the theme displays the posts correctly.

Actually the chronological order seems to matter because it’s not importing by date, it’s importing and displaying numerically so the first article that displays ends up being over 8 years old and then it sorts by category (seemingly) so it’s a jumbled mess.
