    Hello,

since I started working on it, this website is been showing the wrrng language in the SERP (English instead of Italian). The webiste uses WPML as multilingual plugin.

Website is indexed and the chaced version is OK.
Meta data from yoast are correctly shown if I inspect the home page and also if I check the page’s HTML on the Search Console (apart from the fact that EN is shown first).
I know it is a frequent issue, but I tried some of the most frequent solutions (disabling browser redicrection, checking sitemaps, etc.) with no results.

Could you have a look and let me know which other solutions can I try?

    Many Thanks,

    Federico

  • Hi @gri11o,

We checked the sandyshapes.it URL the page automatically displayed text in English. Then after clicking the language switcher to view the Italian version, it displayed the Italian text using the same URL.

Are you using a language redirection tool or the browser redirection feature in WPML? If so, this issue isn’t related to Yoast SEO. According to WPML’s documentation, they can’t guarantee that Google will index your pages correctly: How Browser Language Redirect Affects Google Indexing.

Hello Priscilla and many thanks for your kind reply.

I already tried to switch off the automatic redirection in WPML and waited for a new indexing, but that didn’t solve the issue.

    Any other aspect to check?

    Many Thanks

    Hi,

We looked in Google for https://www.sandyshapes.it/ and we can see the URL appearing in Google but it does not have the right meta description here.

We can also see Yoast is outputting the right meta description in Italian for the homepage. See image https://ibb.co/MCWgQ54.

We are not sure why Google is failing to show the meta description that Google is outputting.

    We suggest the following actions:

    1. Verify with WPML that your language tags have all be set-up correctly.

    2. Clear all your caching from your theme, plugin, server, CDN like CloudFlare or browser. If you are not sure how to clear caching from theme/plugin please speak to those authors. If you want to clear cache from the server, please speak to your host provider. To clear the cache from a browser use this guide:?https://yoast.com/help/how-to-clear-my-browsers-cache/.

    3. Delete your sitemap in Google. Doing so will not hurt the SEO of the site. This guide explains more (scroll to the bottom):?https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/183669?hl=en.

    4. Submit the sitemap again. Be sure to submit only sitemap_index.xml and nothing else.?This guide explains more:?https://yoast.com/help/submit-sitemap-search-engines/.

    5. Monitor the results to see if the issue resolves.

    6. If it does not get resolved in 72 hours we suggest contacting Google for more information as Yoast is outputting the data correctly. You may?contact Google by making a post on their forums:?https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/webmasters.
