Wrong IP?

  • Hello!

    I downloaded your plugin – thank you – and it does record an IP but not the correct one. I am not a developer btw.

    My shared IP address is 24.80.204.127

    But it recorded this IP: 162.241.225.27

    Is there something I am missing?

    Is 162.241.225.27 the IP of your server?

    Ah, you are correct. It appears to be the IP address of the server hosting the site. (And thank you for such a quick reply!)

    I really love the simplicity of your plug-in. Exactly what I was looking for.

    Does this mean I will not be able to capture the IP address that gives me the location of the user signing up to our site?

    Check your comments (if you have them) on your site. I bet they’re all showing the same IP. It’s not the plugin, it’s the server not giving WP the right IP address. You probably have some proxy forwarding in there somewhere that’s messing it up ??

    Ah, thanks for explaining. I’ll test again on our live site which is hosted on a Linode VPS to see if the same thing happens. (The one I was testing on is hosted on BlueHost.) I’ll give you an update later if it matters to you. ?? Thanks.

    Okay, so the live site is OK – it’s recording the right IP address. Learned something new. Love the plugin – I’ll give it a big thumbs up!
