Have found this Plugin works best in Standard posts where I found no conflicts with featured thumbnail images (that I was finding in Video and Quote formats in my theme), so I have changed my review to 5 stars, as it is a nicely designed plugin with very easy install, plus it is free. I also like the Simple Share Buttons Adder version.

Considering you didn’t even open a support request, this is an incredibly harsh review. One star for something I’ve spent hours of my time to provide something for free feels very unfair.

Open graph tags (what drives the image and text social sites display when sharing) is arguably not a share button plugin’s responsibilty. Any decent theme will provide this out of the box, if not, SEO plugins are well equipped for this.

This is not just me trying to pass the buck, even the big players at AddThis have an article especially to tell you what you need to do – https://www.addthis.com/academy/how-to-optimize-facebook-sharing/

I’ve spent plenty of time adding a feature to add said tags to pages/posts and implemented it on the paid-for version, if I didn’t have a mortgage to pay and mouths to feed heck I’d love to give my time away for free – https://simplesharebuttons.com/plus/

Have you attempted to share your posts directly to a social network without clicking on the buttons? Chances are you’ll get the same result, the plugin is not to blame.

Hi, David. I have really tried with this plugin as I really love it. It’s a great design and great setup. And I do appreciate the hours of work involved in these things. (I know: I coded my first site from scratch, which was enough for me!)

But I have not had this problem before with other sharing plugins, and
I have often shared my own posts, especially on between G+. Last night I downloaded a different plugin which is not to my liking and I didn’t have this problem, but I like yours so much better.

I’m not the only person who has commented on this with your Adder plugin.

I downloaded it again last night in case there was something in the download that went amiss. I checked for conflicts with plugins.
The weird things is, it was working in Safari on iOS OK, but not OSX 10.10.5 in either Firefox or Safari. I tested it on all my devices. I haven’t written to you about this on a whim.

And I only mentioned it on Disqus because I hadn’t had any response on the forums and was frustrated.

I will check out these links – thank you, but I don’t have a Facebook account. I need it mainly for G+, LinkedIn, and Twitter. But if I can get it to work, I will give it 5 stars.

Thank you for your time here.

Your reply and initial review include some good points, I do still think that a 1 star is a pretty rash decision.

It will be worth your while taking a look at this section in the Plus documentation -https://docs.simplesharebuttons.com/plus/meta-tags/#facebook-debugger – despite not having a Facebook account, the debugger will show you what needs doing.

Hello again, David. I have been working in this for most of the day. I think I have found the issue, but this pertains to your Adder version I’ve worked with today, so I presume same for Light as well.

Found it was working OK on my old blog, checked plugins, etc, etc, across both blog sites, and I think it is in the Video and Quote format posts where the problem is arising.

In Standard format the buttons work well and the thumbnail images are fine (no extra code needed). I don’t know if anything can help with those other formats.

I have edited my review of the Adder version and changed it to 5 stars. As I said, I do like your plugin. But it has been frustrating with random imagery appearing. Though, I do think a plugin should work out of the box, or at least a suggested accompanying plugin for certain issues would be great rather than telling someone it is their responsibility to make it work. That’s like selling a car without tyres and telling the customer it is her responsibility to go get the tyres somewhere: she will just go buy another car that already has tyres.
