    We are sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with the canonical URLs on paginated archives on your site. We looked at the relevant page and see that Yoast SEO is only generating the following self-canonical:

    <link rel="canonical" href="https://manualtest.yumasoft.pl/nieuws/" />

    The relevant canonical URL should be https://manualtest.yumasoft.pl/nieuws/page/2 and we see that there’s no rel="next" and rel="prev" canonical URLs to signal search engines that it’s a paginated archive. So, there’s must be something wrong going on your site.

    Can you please confirm how did you create the nieuws post types on your setup? Did you manually create it or it comes with the theme?

    Can you please confirm whether the issue persists when using the default Posts post type that comes with the WordPress itself? Do the canonical URLs show correctly for the Posts paginated archive?

    I’ve checked all the settings and the Nieuws posts are created by the ‘WP News and Scrolling Widgets’ plugin, whereas on this page: https://manualmaster.com/verhalen-uit-de-praktijk/page/2/ the posts are added with the WPBakery element ‘Blog’.

    I noticed I can get the right canonical URL by setting this page as the Posts Page in the reading settings of the website. However I don’t want to do it, because it ruins the layout of the posts that our client requested.

    Should I use custom filters as described here: https://yoast.com/help/canonical-urls-in-wordpress-seo/ to manually set the appropriate canonicals for paginated content?

    Hi @bartandro,

    If the page isn’t technically an archive, then using those filters that you mentioned to add the correct canonical URL as well as the next and prev links should solve the problem.

    Depending on your theme and layout, you might still consider editing the layout for the archive template files if it’s not too difficult. You may be able to get more help or guidance from your theme documentation or support.

    The issue as NOT resolve as I am experiencing a similar issue with my blog section.

    I am unable to set a self-referential canonical to paginated pages on my blog.

    Every time I set it for /page/2/, page/3/, page/4/, and so on, it takes the canonical from the last page.

    Why is this?

    I already ren the Yoast Test Helper plugin and reset it the indexation database, clear cached and still nothing.

    Thoughts?
