We have a donation form where people can enter the amount they want to donate. If you enter an amount – say, $10 – and then click on a button to enter your payment, but then change the amount – to, say, $5 – once the payment details section is open, the amount that goes through the Paypal is the original amount ($10), but the Thank You page and confirmation email reflect the revised amount ($5). Please let me know if this is a bug y’all have encountered, and/or if there is some fix. Thanks!

    Hi,

If you enter an amount – say, $10 – and then click on a button to enter your payment, but then change the amount – to, say, $5 – once the payment details section is open, the amount that goes through the Paypal is the original amount ($10), but the Thank You page and confirmation email reflect the revised amount ($5).?

So let me see if I understand what you are saying. I go to your site and enter 20 dollars. I then check the box Accept the terms and condition. After I click on one of the two buttons. But I decide to change my donation and enter 10 instead. However because I already clicked on one of the buttons, I will not be able to make any changes to the amount because it has already been entered and submitted. Is this what you are talking about?

    Kind regards.

Basically correct – except, in your example, you would be able to change the 20 to a 10 in the text box, and you’ll get a confirmation screen that says you donated 10, and an email that says you donated 10, but Paypal will take 20 – both on the sender and recipient end. It’s almost as if the value is stored/captured by clicking the “Debit or Credit Card” button and that captured value gets sent to Paypal no matter what.

I am almost certain that is the actual behaviour. Once you enter a value and click one of the buttons, you don’t have an option to change the value anymore.

    Kind regards.

Thanks for the reply. That seems like a pretty big issue, so I think we’ll have to look for another solution. Cheers!

    Hi,

That seems like a pretty big issue, so I think we’ll have to look for another solution.

What is it that you are trying to achieve?

    Kind regards.

In my mind, there are two ways you could make this function as I would expect:

    • The new value gets captured somehow – once you click Pay Now after entering credit card details, presumably – and sent to Paypal so that your intended donation amount, the confirmation page message, the confirmation email, and the actual donation amount all match.
    • The donation field gets disabled or grayed out once you click on the button to go to Paypal directly or enter your CC details, so that you can’t change the amount unless you refresh the page completely.

Hi, I have submitted a message to the developers to investigate further your request.

    Kind regards.

Changing donation amount should not be an issue. I did the following test myself on my site and it works fine.

I initially entered a donation amount of $20 for my donation product. Upon clicking the PayPal button, the PayPal checkout window popped up successfully. Once the window loaded properly, I closed it and revised the donation amount to $30. I then clicked the PayPal button once more, and the updated amount was reflected in the PayPal checkout window. I completed the transaction and I see that $30 was charged in the PayPal account.

Whatever amount you see in the PayPal’s checkout window (where you hit the complete payment button) will be the amount that PayPal will charge.

So it looks correct to me with the test that I have done. I have done it a couple of times with different amount.

Do you have any caching on this site? That can affect things.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, but this issue is only happening with the Credit/Debit option.
