Hi, I’m writing a (Dutch) review of this plugin with the “Thirteen Revisited” theme. Before publishing the review I would like your reply about some bugs and remarks:

    The bugs:

    – Changing the background colour of the submit button in the comments section doesn’t work.

    – The hover colour of the social media icons can’t be changed

    The remarks:

    – We think that if this plugin allows users to change the colour, size and fonts of nearly alle the items in the theme, it also should be possible to change the font-weight and the font-style of most items like title, tagline and headings.

    – The same for the list items: we think that the possibility to change the list-style-type should be a part of this plugin.

    – It would be great if there was an easy way to export and import the settings (from test-site tot live-site).

    – The possibility to give the menubar a gradient colour or a background image would also be a great addition to your plugin.

    – Why not add an option for a custom css as well?

Overall, we think this is a very nice plugin with only a few minor bugs, and with some additions this would be a really great plugin.

    Hi webblish,

Thanks for taking the time to write a review of Styles! You have some really great questions. ??

Unfortunately, I’m sick in bed right now, but I just wanted to let you know that I’ve seen your post and have it open to work through as soon as I’ve recovered!

Thanks for your patience. I look forward to finding solutions for the bugs you reported and addressing each of your other points in detail. ??

    Hi webblish,

Thanks for your patience while I recovered from being ill. Below are my answers to your questions. Have a great day. ??

Changing the background colour of the submit button in the comments section doesn’t work.

This was an error in Styles: TwentyThirteen, which @zgani worked from to create Styles: Revised. I have updated it in Styles: TwentyThirteen 1.0.5. Thank you for the report! I have credited you in the changelog.

@zgani will need to update it in his own plugin.

The hover colour of the social media icons can’t be changed

This appears to be a design decision by @zgani in his theme. (Adding social icons, but not options in Styles: Revised for editing icon colors.) He can add this by copying the format used for Menu —?Primary or any of the other color options. I wasn’t aware of @zgani‘s branch of the TwentyThirteen theme or his branch of my Styles: TwentyThirteen plugin until today, so I can’t speak more than that on his decision process.

As an alternative, I released a plugin for this purpose: Menu Social Icons. It works with any theme by default, and it works with existing Styles settings. Both of these are the case because it doesn’t add any additional options —?it configures itself by analyzing existing WordPress menus for links to social sites, then adopts formatting from those menus.

We think that if this plugin allows users to change the colour, size and fonts of nearly alle the items in the theme, it also should be possible to change the font-weight and the font-style of most items like title, tagline and headings.

I agree that these would be great additions! In face, those options once existed in Styles version 0.5.3.

The big switch between 0.5.3 and 1.0 was that Styles was completely rewritten to use WordPress core APIs and the Customizer. In that process, some features had to be dropped to be able to release the plugin.

Remember, this plugin is written and released entirely on volunteered time. Please judge the plugin by what it claims to do, not by what you wish it could do. I do hope to extend fonts more in the future, starting first with live font previews

The same for the list items: we think that the possibility to change the list-style-type should be a part of this plugin.

Developers have created extensions to Styles that add options like this that they feel would be useful for their needs. For example, X-Team’s styles-control-background-position. I’m happy to see others develop new controls where they feel there is a need.

It would be great if there was an easy way to export and import the settings (from test-site tot live-site).

This is a high priority to add in the future. ?? In the meantime, the plugin does already support saving revisions with wp-settings-revisions.

The possibility to give the menubar a gradient colour or a background image would also be a great addition to your plugin.

I agree. Version 0.5.3 had both a custom gradient picker and image upload support, but they had to be cut in the rewrite as well.

I have been able to get documentation from some generous Automattic employees on how to possibly rebuild these within the Customizer, but again, I’m limited by the resources of a volunteer project. Please keep in mind that the plugin does not claim to do either of these.

Why not add an option for a custom css as well?

This is covered by the CSS plugin. You can view this video on how to use it for Menu Social Icons as an example.

Hi, many thanks for your reply, I’ll cover them in the review, which will be published on a Dutch blog about WordPress. I will post the URL once it’s online.

I’ve got one addition: if you plan to support the font-weight and font-style, I would also add ‘text-transform’, which is often used for headings and widget titles.

Thanks for the recommendation. I did have text-transform, as well as line-height, in the past font version, and hope to restore them all in the future.
