Write new page freezes when inserting code

I’m trying to show some code on a new page for a contact form, but when I paste the form code inside of “pre” tags and press “save and continue editing” the whole screen freezes up. And when I try to get back to that same editing page later it freezes again. Any idea why? I’ve been able to use almost all other kinds of code inside the pre tags without problem
