Do you get that error right after creating a staging site, or did you modify something on the staging site?

Do you get the same error when creating a new staging site?

To me it looks like your wordpress installation is broken.

Manually updating the wp core again could fix it.

Yes, the error occurs each time by trying to creating a new staging site.

The site is created successfully but can*t be opened.

Anyhow, we will delete the plug-in now and find another way to produce a staging site, because we are running out of time.

the original wordpress site works fine with the newest version.
