wpseo_metadesc only on certain custom post types (frontend)

I’m trying to only run wpseo_metadesc on certain pages where i want to write a custom meta description. However, the filter runs on every page and if i try to return false or not run the filter for a specific custom post type it still runs and returns nothing.
Is there anyway to make this filter only apply to certain custom post types?
It seems impossible because when the filter runs it doesn’t know anything about the post it seems and doesn’t know its type so i can’t use any if / else logic to make sure it runs on a specific custom post type.
