• Hi,

I am using WPML to localize the site in multiple languages. In the Translate Taxonomy, WPML let’s me create translations for categories. Once I do, I have to then categorize the posts in the proper category so each appears in the right language. The problem I have is that in Display Widgets I don’t see the “translated categories”. I do see all the translated pages, but not the categories… Any idea?

    Thank you,

    Iulian

  • I have a similar issue. Other plugins with the same functionality I’ve tried simply displays the category of the “main language” in the admin interface, but still applies the correct/translated category to the filtering when the page is displayed in another language. I can’t say for sure, but it seems to me there might be an issue (bug) with Display Widgets when used with WPML and translated categories.

Tomas, what other plugin did you use that worked? I am willing to change for something that has a similar functionality.

    Thanks!

I’ve tried quite a few by now but I finally settled on a very powerful plugin called Dynamic Widgets by Qurl.

The only problem I have with Dynamic Widgets is that it’s a bit overwhelming at a first glance. It felt like quite a chore to configure each widget, since the plugin is so powerful and has so many configuration options. But once you’ve figured it out and have done the work configuring each widget, it seems to work flawlessly.

If the author of Display Widgets decides to fix the above mentioned issue I’d be happy to give the plugin a second try though. Since it’s less overwhelming, I suppose it would be easier to teach less tech-savvy users how to use it.

I also don’t see this as an extremely difficult thing (not trying to minimize the development work here…) But the way I see it, if the plugin has a checkmark to “Display also on language sub-pages” and when the plugin checks if a page AND a page’s parent is included in the selection, that would solve the problem…

Sorry, in my last reply I was referring to a different, but related problem I have with the plugin: when I translate pages they all appear in the selector box. I wish there was a way to “hide” the WPML generated sub-pages and also to extend the “visibility” of the parent page to the child page…

I’ve found a way that I think can provide some turnaround for this issue.

Display widgets only shows the categories related to the language that was on when the plugin was activated.
So, when switching language, deactivating and activating the plugin brings the current language categories…

Not very practical to be activating and deactivating the plugin for every language, but can be handy when confronted to this problem (bug?).
