Hi there! It looks like there is an issue with Jetpack’s connection on your site. That could explain the trouble you’ve been experiencing with shortlinks.

Could you please try disconnecting and then reconnecting Jetpack to WordPress.com?

To do so, navigate to Dashboard > Jetpack. Then, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the “Disconnect from WordPress.com” link. After doing so, click the “Connect to Get Started” button to reconnect.

Please let me know when you have done so, and I will check that your connection is working properly on our end.

Hello, I followed your steps. Even before that, I deactivated Jetpack and activate it back again. Yet no luck.

I deleted Jetpack through FTP and download and put it back manually and connect to wordpress with another account, yet no luck!

Don’t know what to do again.

The next thing to check is whether any other plugins on your site may have a conflict. Please check our Known Issues list here:
    https://jetpack.me/support/getting-started-with-jetpack/troubleshooting-tips/

You can also try to deactivate all plugins on your site, and then activate them one at a time to determine if there is a plugin conflict.

If that doesn’t help, please rule out a theme conflict by temporarily changing your site’s theme to a default theme (such as Twenty Fifteen) and trying again to connect.

If you still can’t connect, can you please use Jetpack’s Debugger module to send us some more information about your site?

    1) Go to the Jetpack page in your dashboard.
    2) Click on the Debug link appearing at the bottom of the page.
    3) Click the link that says “click here to contact Jetpack support.”
    4) Fill in the description box and your name and email address.
    5) Click the “Contact Support” button.

    Thanks!

I had the same issue. This is the response I got from support:

This was recently changed because Twitter changed the way they handle links in tweets. From here:

    https://support.twitter.com/articles/78124-posting-links-in-a-tweet

“A URL of any length will be altered to 22 characters.”

Additionally, our research shows that people are more likely to click on non-shortened links, so that is now the way Publicize works out of the box.

I think, however, we are considering re-enabling the old shortlink functionality, but that hasn’t been done quite yet.

Thanks for that explanation – this has been driving me a little batty.

This problem started a few weeks back when Jetpack changed the backend of Publicize where the body of the messages were used instead of titles. I guess it was a bug they created and from the way it looks it is not going to be fixed.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

from the way it looks it is not going to be fixed.

We’re still actively working on Publicize, and will iron out these kinds of issues, making Publicize a bit more customizable in the process. I’ll post again here as soon as I have some news!
