I use G Suite for my WordPress/StudioPress Wellness Pro Theme blog’s default email. It
(G Suite) is sending and receiving emails as would be expected.

I set up WP Forms for my blog’s “Contact Us” page. When I fill out the form and click “Submit” I get the expected automated response. However, no email arrives in my inbox. It is not in the Spam folder either.

I have installed the WP Mail SMTP plugin and completed the detailed instructions for “How to Securely Send WordPress Emails Using Gmail SMTP with WP Mail SMTP”

Under >settings>WP Mail SMTP>Email Test, I fill in the recipient email address and click send Email. It says the email was sent successfully, and I do indeed receive the email at the location where I sent it.

However, when filling out the WP Form on the Contact Us page I am still receiving nothing in my inbox.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi larrydake,

Generally when we see the SMTP email delivering successfully, but form emails still not working, it’s a result of issues in the notification settings.

The most common issue is with the From Email. To check on this, you’ll need to open the form builder and go to Settings > Notifications. Here, you’ll see a From Email field. The email address used here must be the same email used to set up SMTP.

In case it helps, you can find additional details on setting up notification settings in our form notification tutorial.

I hope this helps! When you’ve had a chance to check on this and submit a form to test, could you let me know how it goes?

    Thanks!

    Thank you! Problem resolved!

I went to the form builder >Settings and could find no information on the form I had set up — so I deleted the form from the contact page and built a new one.

    It works!

    Thank you.

My problem is slightly different. I have created a form using WPForms lite which works with a single email address but does not work with two email addresses. The owner of my host server strongly advises that I should not install the SMTP plug-in. The form software on the server works OK for contact form-7 and for a Form Maker form. Is there an easy solution to my problem?

    Hi wcfsecretary,

First, I apologize for the delayed reply!

If you’re specifically seeing issues with two email addresses, I’d recommend first checking to be sure that there’s a comma between the emails. Here’s a screenshot with an example from my site.

Or if you’re already using a comma between email addresses, there may just be something odd triggering email delivery issues — in which case SMTP is the way to go (and really, it’s a good preventive measure either way).

It’s odd that your hosting provider would recommend against installing SMTP, however there are also plenty of options that aren’t technically “SMTP” (these generally use an API instead). So while we tend to use “SMTP” as a blanket term, possibly this caused some confusion on their end.

Traditional SMTP requires a specific port to be available, which I suspect is an issue on your host’s server — however an API-based option will not use a port.

For API options, I’d recommend considering options such as Gmail/G Suite, SendGrid, or Mailgun from our “SMTP” recommendations list.

    I hope this helps! ??

    Greetings,
I need to change the submit button email address from mine (web admin) to one I’ve set up as an editor to handle responses to the WPForm lite. Is there a way to change the default [admin email] to editor email for the submit button only.

    Hi BillieN,

If I’m understanding correctly, it sounds like you’d like to change the email settings for just a single form. This is definitely possible, and doesn’t require changing the WordPress admin email in any way.

To adjust these settings, you’ll need to open the form builder and go to Settings > Notifications. Here, you can adjust the recipient (the Send To Email Address). Simply delete the existing email address (or the {admin_email} Smart Tag) and add the email you want to use.

For more details on setting up notification emails, here’s our tutorial.

    I hope this helps! ??

I’m posting this for anyone who is here searching for answers to why WPForms isn’t sending emails. There are many possibilities and @jquigam has addressed some of them already.

For those who have tried her suggestions, to no avail, you may need to have GoDaddy (or whoever your ISP/host is) set up a spam email exception in Exchange Admin Center. I wrote a blog post detailing step-by-step how to do this.

I’m happy to help if you have questions: please post them as comments on the blog:

I have a similar problem, but it is not happening always!
I have several forms. they are numbered like EV1, EV2, EV3
I have a company emailadress that leads to all staff, and one that only is for me.
so if people send the forms that should be send to me. sometimes. I get the notification EV1, EV2, EV3
    sometimes
    it is
    EV2 and EV3
    sometimes
    EV1 and EV3
sometimes people say they send it annd nothing came…
I don’t know how to check and verify that it works always or just by accident.

Hi. I created a “simple contact form” as a test, but no automated reply arrives in my mail-box including the spam folder either.

I checked the tutorial “Setting Up a Notification Email(*1)” and set it as follows.

    – Notification dropdown: on
    – Reply-To: {field_id=”1″}(*2)

Please let me know how I fix this problem…

*1. Setting Up a Notification Email.
    https://wpforms.com/docs/setup-form-notification-wpforms/#basic-setup

*2. {field_id=”1″} is an available fields “Email” from Smart Tags.

So here is my conundrum. I wasn’t receiving emails from my forms after getting my SMTP Email Test to work. In the From Email input (on the WP Forms Notification area), I was using {admin_email} ([email protected]). Which I assumed should work, because that is what I setup the SMTP with. Although, I NEVER received any emails doing it this way. However, when I deleted the {admin_email} tag and typed out the admin email ([email protected]), it worked perfectly. I don’t quite understand why since it should be referencing the same email. Hope this helps!

I apologize for the inconvenience with this!

    Hi,

I am having similar issues. We are using Gravity Forms and have multiple different forms. In most cases, everyone is receiving their emails properly. But recently we’ve had at least 4 known cases where when a user submits a form, none of the admins are receiving the notification. The “send to” option for each form is set to “configure routing” and has the proper configuration set up (we know it is right because most of the time everyone is getting the emails). This doesn’t happen every time, but it does happen with at least 2 different forms so far. What are my options here?

The issue with the website is that when it was built, the developer never installed the child theme, so this website hasn’t been able to be updated in a very long time. We have been dealing with issues one step at a time. Currently, this is the only issue. WordPress is up to date. We cannot update the theme without losing all of the design changes made to the website over the years. I have suggested to the client that they allow us to install a Child theme and start transferring over the settings to the Child theme so that we can update the parent and then update all the other plugins, but they haven’t agreed to this yet.

So we can’t update Gravity Forms, the theme, or other plugins. It is just weird that only sometimes the admin notifications aren’t sending.

    What can we try next?

    Hi krichman,

I’m sorry to hear you’re running into these issues. While we’d be happy to advise on best next steps for WPForms, in this case I’d recommend reaching out to the Gravity Forms support team.

Our recommendations about setting up SMTP should work equally well for all forms plugins in WordPress, but since you have such an unique situation with updates it would definitely be a good idea to get in touch with their support specifically.

I hope this helps! And if you ever decide to give WPForms a try, please let us know how we can help further ??
