Hey @dragongate – Thanks for contacting us!
Usually, we’ve seen that when reCAPTCHA files are loading twice on the website, it might cause some sort of conflict. When you have some time, can you please enable No Conflict Mode under WPForms > Settings > CAPTCHA, and see if that helps?
In case the issue is still there, please share the URL of the page where the form is embedded and I’ll be happy to take a closer look.
Kindly,
Hello Prashant,
Thank you for your interest to reply,
I did what you told me to do and enable “No Conflict Mode” under WPForms > Settings > CAPTCHA.
The theme that I am using on my WP website has a built-in reCaptcha option enabled and works with all the theme specific forms such as theme login/logout forms and some other theme specific forms, but not for other independent custom created pages such as the contact page. The problem is if I enable the No Conflict Mode under WPForms > Settings > CAPTCHA , it will disable the theme built-in reCaptcha on all theme specific forms such as login/logout forms and some other theme specific forms!! so this option does not work for me!
I’ve been using WPforms on my website with my current theme for long time and it was working fine with no conflict and no error at all, only after updating WPforms recently this issue start to happen! I’m not exactly sure which WPforms version update start generating this error!
Also, I would like to mention here that upon checking the HTML connected with the generated error “this field is required” by inspecting the webpage, I saw that this error message is related to invisible reCaptcha !! but in my WPform reCaptcha setting I set the mode to reCaptcha V2 not to invisible reCaptcha so why the error message shows that this error related to invisible reCapcha?!!
If I disabled the reCaptcha for WPforms everything works fine and the contact form works OK but with no reCaptcha on it!
in regard to your request to share the URL of the page where the form is embedded, I cannot provide the URL here due to privacy reasons applied by my employer, and the fact that I temporarily disabled the reCaptcha option on WPforms for now until this issue resolved.
Hope you can find what change has been made with your updates that start causing this issue to happen!
Please resolve this issue.
Thank you,
Hey @dragongate – Thanks for following on this ticket!
It’s quite weird to see that you’re seeing an invisible reCAPTCHA error message when you’ve activated V2 reCAPTCHA. Further, I looked into our changelog and codebase, and we haven’t made any changes to our reCAPTCHA integration. Further, we haven’t received a similar report of the issue you’re facing. Ideally, the URL would have helped to take a closer look, but I respect that you’re unable to share due to privacy reasons.
In this case, I would suggest you to reachout to the theme developer, and see if they can provide a code snippet to exclude their reCAPTCHA integration on pages where WPForms reCAPTCHA is getting loaded.
Or, you can also consider using our hCaptcha integration. This works much like Google’s v2 Checkbox reCAPTCHA. Within your forms, hCaptcha will display a checkbox asking users to prove they’re human. We have a detailed guide for setting up hCaptcha here.

Hey @dragongate –
We haven’t heard back from you in a few days, so I’m going to go ahead and close this thread for now. But if you’d like us to assist further, please feel welcome to continue the conversation.
Thanks!
Hello Prashant,
Sorry for the delay but I’m quite busy during this week, the issue still not yet resolved so please do not mark it as resolved!
In regard to your suggestions, about:
- Reaching out to the theme developer, to provide a code snippet to exclude their reCAPTCHA integration on pages where WPForms reCAPTCHA is getting loaded, this suggestion is not applicable due to the fact that the built-in reCaptcha of the theme works only with all the theme specific forms such as theme login/logout forms and some other theme specific forms as I have mentioned earlier, but not for other independent custom created pages such as the “Contact” page form. so technically, the built-in reCaptcha of the theme is not active on the “Contact” page form, so this suggestion is not applicable in this case.
- In regard to your suggestion to consider using our hCaptcha integration instead of Google reCaptcha, I tried it and it did not work, the same problem happening so shifting from Google reCaptcha to hCaptcha does not resolve the problem!
For now, I have temporarily disabled WPforms plugin on my website as it cannot be used, and I shifted to another contact form plugin and it is working fine on my website with no issues, but I still hope that the developers of WPforms can resolve this issue with their plugin.
Thank you
Hey @dragongate – Thanks for sharing the details!
I apologize, since we haven’t had a similar report, and without looking into the website, it’s kinda difficult to narrow down the issue you’re facing with the reCAPTCHA. If possible, can you please get in touch with us through our contact page to further the issue you’re facing? Or, you can also take a look at our troubleshooting guide for some additional steps that you can take to fix the issue.
Kindly,
Same issue with Google reCaptcha here as well. Suddenly getting “This field is required” error after checking I am not a robot filter. reCaptcha filter integration has worked without issue for over a year until today. Now users can’t submit form so I has to disable reCaptcha. All plugins, WP Core and php are up to date. Please advise. https://www.abccm.org/volunteer-inquiry/
Hey @keithbowman – Thanks for reaching out!
I looked at the page you’ve shared, and on my end, the reCAPTCHA appears to be working fine, and I was able to submit the form. Here’s a screencast for quick reference.
When you have some time, can you please share the steps by creating a new ticket that I can follow to replicate the issue?
Kindly,
I too have been getting the “This field is required” message when attempting to use Google reCaptcha on a WPForms (lite) form. I did have it working for a couple of test submissions. Although I am not sure if this caused it, I added another form to the site that also used the Google reCaptcha. This was placed on a different page and testing that is when I started getting the “This field is required” message. I have read all I can find with regard to correcting this and have tried it all including checking the resolve conflicts check box. I have gone so far as to remove the form from the second page. Still getting the message on the original one. I have completely removed the Google reCaptcha plugin and changed to hCaptcha which works. I then disabled the hCaptcha (removed it from WPForms as well) and reinstalled Google reCaptcha and turned that on in WPForms. I still get the “This field is required” message. This appears to be a fairly common problem without a resolution (that I have been able to find). I’d really like to use WPForms for the many other features including what is in Pro. It’s the little things like this that are preventing me from making the purchase. Any resolution would be appreciated by me and I am sure many others.
Hey @stevesarviel – Thanks for reaching out!
When you have sometime, can you please share the URL where the form is embedded so I can take a closer look? I’d also request you to please create a new support ticket to avoid any potential confusion.
Kindly,
I also had same issue. I checked all plugins and found multiple plugin installed related to recaptcha, so I deleted all and kept only one recaptcha for the wp form, and it worked for me. And I am using google recaptch for wp form for multiple websites
Hey @samdeone1 – Thanks for sharing your findings, and I’m happy to hear that the reCAPTCHA is working fine for you.
Kindly,
