    Hi,

wp_wfconfig.ibd keeps growing exponentially. Currently at 30gig and has grown from 3gig in one month.

I keep having to uninstall wordfence and reinstall again to get this value down, I believe I read on an earlier thread this could be the php version so I updated to php8 but i still get this level of growth.. per site.

    Any ideas?

Hi @csyecommerce, thanks for getting in touch about this.

There are a few versions of MySQL that have a bug where the number of rows seem fine, but the table keeps on growing in the manner you’re describing here. It will often affect multiple sites if they’re on the same server or MySQL versions.

We can check this out for you if you drop us a diagnostic to wftest @ wordfence . com. Click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

NOTE: It should look as follows – Screenshot of Tools > Diagnostic > Send by Email

    Thanks,
    Peter.

Hi @csyecommerce, thanks for sending your diagnostic over.

I see the huge wfconfig table, which appears to not be clearing down properly, but also see you’re on MySQL 8.0.16 – which should in theory be fine. I’ve seen some customers also upgrade to 8.0.19 but I don’t think this minor version is a critical difference in this case. I expect that if the upgrade process of the plugin itself doesn’t fix the table, you will probably need to optimize it. The original issue appears to be that overwritten data wasn’t marked as safe to delete, leaving it orphaned.

If you optimize the table in MySQL with no difference seen, it may be appropriate to delete the Wordfence tables on deactivation of the plugin and reinstall it.

You can backup your Wordfence settings via the Export option. Navigate to Wordfence > Tools > Import/Export Options and click Export. You can also take note of the current Whitelisted URLs you have in Wordfence > Firewall > All Firewall Options > Whitelisted URLs as these are NOT included in the Import/Export, and will be lost during the re-install.
Here is what is exported: https://www.wordfence.com/help/tools/import-export/
During the export, you will be given a long string of text. Keep this safe, you’ll need it in a few minutes.

After that, enable the option to Delete Wordfence tables and data on deactivation in All Options > General Wordfence Options. You will want to remember to disable this after you reinstall Wordfence again.

After you enable that option, you can deactivate Wordfence from the Plugins area of your site, then delete it. Next, from the plugins area, search for and re-install Wordfence like normal.

It will be like setting Wordfence up for the first time. You will need to enter an email address, and then go into Tools > Import/Export Options and paste that string of text into the Import Wordfence Options field and click the button there.

The firewall will be in Learning Mode by default for 7 days. I would recommend switching this to Enabled and Protected as soon as possible.

For your reference, there’s a full list of our database tables on the following page: https://www.wordfence.com/help/advanced/remove-or-reset/

    Thanks again,
    Peter.

    Hi Peter,

This is the process I have already been doing.. In the case of this site site it goes down to about 2-3 gig.. but in the space of 2 months is back up over 30.. its currently at 35 so its grown by 5 gig since my first thread.

I have around 50 sites and am having to un-install Wordfence (deleting tables when I do so) every few months.. to clear hundred of gig space off my server.

The only thing I don’t do is leave in learning mode for 7 days.

My sites all share the same settings.. here is the settings config in case a combination of one or more of these is causing the issue .
