Go to Tools->EWWW Image Optimizer and click Migrate Optimization Records and that should clear it out.

    Thank you for your reply.

If I want to delete the plugin thereafter, can I also delete the ewww tables in my database? Or will I loose the images in my library?

None of your images are stored in the ewwwio_images table. They are stored on the file system by WordPress, and will remain there no matter what you do to the plugin or the ewwwio_* tables.
