    Hi,

I am trying to determine how to fix an issue I am having. I used the Updraft Backup plugin to backup my files but I get an error saying that my wp_postmeta is too large (over 1.4 million). So I downloaded the WP Optimize plugin and ran all the suggested updates (not the lines in red options). I then tried to run Updraft again but I am getting the same error
wp_postmeta is too large). Would this WP Optimize plugin work for what I am trying to accomplish if I purchase the pro version or run the options in red font? I don’t mind doing so but I want to be sure it will solve this specific problem before I do so.

    Thank you in advance.

  • @smg101 It seems you have a very large database. You can use phpmyadmin to take database backup. Out of my curiosity what hosting panel you use? There should be a backup manager which you could use to take database backup. I hope this helps. Ping me if any help needed. Thanks.

Yes, it is large. I know I could attempt to cleanup some things in phpmyadmin but I wanted to use a plugin instead since I am not 100% proficient in database cleanup & optimization. The hosting account is on an older Godaddy plan and does not have cPanel access. Does anyone have a quick tutorial on how to safely delete and optimize the Wp_postmeta table?

Where WP-O gives information about orphaned post-meta data, does it say you have much?

If not, then it may be that you can’t do much by optimizing away inefficiencies. It may be that some plugin on your site is intentionally storing all of that data. Can you post a screenshot of the display of what can be optimised? (e.g. use https://snag.gy).

    Hi David,

Here is the screenshot of the error message I am getting in Updraft when trying to backup. Not sure if this is what you were looking for: https://www.dropbox.com/s/63il8oxh81k3cnm/Screen%20Shot%202018-05-14%20at%2010.08.22%20AM.png?dl=0

Thank you for any help you could provide.

You can use this option but I think it will not help that much and you can try contacting your hosting provider so they can increase your PHP limitations to dump this big table.

smg101 no, not that. I meant the main screen in WP-Optimize which provides info on how much data can be deleted through supported optimisations.
