wp_post_views table crashed

This week my hosting company informed me that the MySQL wp_post_views table has crashed. We couldn’t fix it with phpmyadmin (even though it reports it to be fixed). What’s happening is that system keeps trying to fix it (50,000+ times) causing a high server load.

Is the wp_post_views table related to your WP-Pageviews?

I’m trying to figure out if I can empty or drop that table since I don’t really need all the pageview statistics – if that’s what that table contains.

Or is this some kind of table exclusive to WordPress? Thanks!
