wp_list_bookmarks classes not working?

Hey is anybody else having trouble using the ‘class’ parameter for the ‘wp_list_bookmarks’ function? I said ‘class=item’ but when I check the source code in the browser it only has the list tag when it should say <li class=item>. Let me know if I doing something wrong? Thanks!
