wp_get_archives confusion

    wp_get_archives is not playing nice with my permalinks. I am using
    <?php wp_get_archives('type=yearly'); ?>
    and
    <?php wp_get_archives('type=monthly'); ?>
    It redirects me to index.php? Works perfectly on local using archive.php, not sure why its taking me to index.php. Permalink structure is like so /%postname%/%post_id%/

    Thanks for any suggestions.
