wp_generate_attachment_metadata() no thumbnails

    So I am adding photos by php to the website and useing the wordpress functions to insert them as attachments. Now I have a problem with this function because yesterday it generated the thumbnails for the photo. Now it only inserts it into the database. Any ideas or other way to generate thumbnails? It’s not very important, but on the admin page looks a bit odd.
