So I am seeing that there are jobs sitting waiting to be fired within WordPress

    wp_version_check None 2015-03-24 15:09:58 (now) 12 hours
    wp_update_plugins None 2015-03-24 15:09:58 (now) 12 hours
    wp_update_themes None 2015-03-24 15:09:58 (now) 12 hours
    wp_scheduled_delete None 2015-03-24 15:10:05 (now) 1 day
    wp_maybe_auto_update None 2015-03-24 15:55:00 (now) 12 hours
    mwp_datasend None 2015-03-24 16:44:33 (now) 3 hours
    wp_scheduled_auto_draft_delete None 2015-03-25 00:24:51 (now) 1 day
    truncate_sll None 2015-03-25 10:43:09 (now) 1 day

So it is showing that there are items waiting to be fired but have not fired yet. Tried manually forcing it with a domain.com/wp-cron.php?doing_wp_cron=1 but nothing has changed in the wp_cron schedule list.

  • Hi, BilliardGreg, & welcome. Perchance are you running any caching plugins on your site? (you don’t provide us a link to it, btw, so we can have a look). If you do have a caching plugin, then by all means clear it & then have another look.

If you have a hosting plan that supports cron jobs, I usually recommend that wp-cron be run twice a day using the host control panel. I usually set mine to something like 1:12 a.m. & p.m., so as to be less likely to be in competition w/jobs running on the hour, & especially at midnight & noon, which are quite popular.

Turns out I was the issue was with a few lines of code. I was trying to turn off auto-updates for a specific plugin and that code was causing issues with some basic wordpress functionality. It was disabling auto updates for more than just that plugin for instance.
