My WP has just auto-updated to 5.5 and now Yoast isn’t working for editing posts. The SEO section works fine for pages, but not posts

  • HI @lightning1000,

Sorry to hear there’s a problem. We’ve received similar reports and this issue can be due to plugin or theme conflicts.

To make sure that’s not the issue, can you do the following steps for us:

    1. Make that you have updated all your other plugins and themes?

    2. Does the issue happen if you temporarily disable Yoast SEO?

3.?Please Check for conflicts by deactivating all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a default WordPress theme like Twenty Nineteen.

    4. Check for?JavaScript errors in the console.

Can you let us know the results?

@universalmovies, Hello! We’re sorry to see you’re having a similar problem. We’d like to help with your site’s issue as well in your own support topic instead of in different threads. Would you mind creating a new forum topic?

    @priscillamc thanks for reply.

Did everything you said, and I found the following plugin looks to be causing the issue

    Vafpress Post Formats UI

Worked fine before the update, so not sure if it’s a conflict between that and Yoast or the plugin and wordpress.

The theme I am using (soledad) suggests this is a required plugin, but seems to be working without it activated

If you’ve found a conflict with another plugin and Yoast SEO, we track plugin compatibility issues on GitHub. We’d appreciate it if you can create a new GitHub issue for our developers. If you haven’t already, we also ask you to report the issue to the other plugin developer as well.

According to the Soledad changelog, it is compatible with WordPress version 5.5 & Yoast SEO plugin. However, you may need to update the plugin “Vafpress Post Formats UI” to solve the issues with the editor if you already have Soledad 7.3.5.

    Does this resolve the issue?

Soledad released a fix for this

    Soledad Version 7.3.5:
    * QUICK FIX: Compatible with WordPress version 5.5 & Yoast SEO plugin. <br />
Please update the theme & update plugin “Vafpress Post Formats UI” to solve the issues with the editor.

I’m not sure if its still going to work with structured data though.

@lightning1000 Can you please confirm whether your issue resolves when using Soledad 7.3.5 ?

@devnihil im not actually sure how to update my theme yet.

For now, I have disabled Vafpress Post Formats UI which has Yoast working at the moment.

When i figure out how to update soledad theme, i will get back to you

@lightning1000 Thanks for your reply. As for updating the theme, if the theme is a premium one, it should always be able to be updated manually if you aren’t able to see updates as they are available from within WordPress. You can do so by manually replacing the extracted updated theme files with those that are located in /wp-content/themes/. If you aren’t sure how to do this, the theme developer should have more specific instructions available or should be able to advise you better if you contact them directly.
