We had a website built by a professional web designer to replace the ageing one I created years ago. This new one uses WP but is mapped to the existing domain.

However, when I go into the host control panel, WP isn’t installed. There is only a mysql database there.

There is an option to install WP, but the developer hasn’t gone down this route. Can anyone tell me what advantage doing this has? And what is this style of setup called?
    Thanks

  • Hi,

It doesn’t make any difference. Your developer has installed the WP manually and have not used your hosting control panel auto-installer.

I advice that you don’t install another instance of WP via your control panel as it may break your current installation.

    Hope that helps.

Iman, thanks. I couldn’t think of how to word the question to swearch for this Last thing I want to do is break an expensive website!

We have 6 domains in our package, is it OK to install WP on on of the different domains? – it looks to me that they’re all separate entities.
    Cheers.
