• Hello,

I recently started to get involved with wordpress. I bought therefore a manual handbook in order to avoid any mistakes. However, I obviously made a big one because my login is blocked now.

I was at the backend, at the settings to change my WP URL and Website URL. Originally it was “https://domainname.de/_domainname_” (URL WP and URL Website). I changed both to “https://domainname.de” (delete the end of it “_domainname_”). Now my Login is blocked.

I know that there exist a lot of forums with post dealing with very similar problems, but I read them all and they did not help me at all. For example, I downloaded FileZilla and changed the code of the wp-config.php using Atom, but it did not work out.

Every time I try to login (https://domainname.de/wp-login.php) and enter my username and password, another domain name of mine appears in the URL bar of my browser. I do not know why.I have the feeling that the problem is related to the fact that I might installed it in a subordinary file. But I am not sure about that.

I hope you can help me here.

    Thanks in advance.

    Best regards

I can see that the domain you mention, https://domainname.de isn’t a WordPress site, so I’m assuming your site should be on a different domain.

Say your domain would be something like https://mydomain.com, this is the domain URL you would add to the WordPress settings in the admin for Site URL and Home URL. You will not need to add the hosting/domain company URL ahead of it.

So if your domain for example, is christopher1992.com, you would enter in the WP URL settings https://christopher1992.com (you can also add the www if you want, so https://www.christopher1992.com).

Then your login URL to then login into WordPress would be https://christopher1992.com/wp-login.php

Alternatively, if you can let us know the domain you are trying to install WordPress on, it may shed more light into where you should upload the WordPress files to. For example, if you are wanting it in a folder inside the domain, then it would be like https://christopher1992.com/myfolder (where the folder is called /myfolder in your root)

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for the quick response Phil!

    My domain is “www.intraoprotect.de”.

However, at the backend under “settings” it said that my WP URL and Website URL was

    https://intraoprotect.de/_intraoprotect_” (WP URL)

    https://intraoprotect.de/_intraoprotect_” (Website URL)

So I thought: “the last part of this is ‘incorrect’ and thus I just deleted it into “https://intraoprotect.de”, which is my official domain name. Stupid I know now.

With respect to your comment on the correct login address (“https://christopher1992.com/wp-login.php”), I entered in the address bar of my browser “https://intraoprotect.de/wp-login.php + my password (which I know). After clicking the enter button, one message appeared saying (1) that the password is not correct and in addition (2) the address bar shows a totally other domain name. I also own this domain and I also know the login data for this one, but I just do not get why I am passed to this login area. It is like you wanna login in facebook and after you tried and failed, the login area of your amazon account appears.

    Hi Christopher,

Yes, I see the same. Did you migrate (copy/duplicate) the site from the koala site onto this new domain? Looks like there may be redirect set up over there. Alternatively, it could be a plugin, function or cache thats causing the redirect.

I notice that if you visit the login page: https://intraoprotect.de/wp-login.php, you can see the ‘forgot password’ and return home links are still pointing to the koala site URL, meaning the WordPress settings are set to the wrong URL by the looks of it, either by the site/home URL or via a plugin/redirect somewhere.

If you have access to the intraoprotect site database (via PHPMyAdmin), you can login and navigate to the options table (wp_options) and check the values entered if you can’t access the site’s admin area.
