WP update causes problems

  • Hi All

    I just updated WP to the latest version which seemed to go smoothly.

    However upon checking my WP members pages I have a problem.

    The fields for new registrations, pass word reset, user profile etc. no longer line up with the text identifying each field.

    Also the short code texts are appearing on the pages.

    Also could anyone explain what blocking means with reference to posts and pages.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Depends on the stylesheet you are using. I would suggest trying one of the other stylesheets.

    There were some updates to the Twenty Fourteen stylesheet in 2.9.1, so if that is the one you are using that has problems, try the new version. There were some height issues in the 2.9.0 version that would, in some cases, produce the wrapping you mentioned.

    Also please explain the significance or meaning of blocking pages/posts.

    Tradedog, if you block a post or page, a reader must must be registered and must login to read it.

    If a site runs on subscriptions, then blocking the post for those who have subscribed is the way to go.

    If the site is free access and the webmaster has a problem with others stealing their content, then blocking the post to only those who register is a way to go.

    Hard to know really whether anyone is stealing your content. Even subscribed members could because you would not know which member/s are stealing it.

    Either way, in the early days of a sites existence, unless the content is freely available, building an audience is going to be even more difficult than it already is.

    Am I making the right decision in not blocking anything?

    Sorry, I’m just seeing this. I only have two or three of my posts blocked and I have over 1000 posts. If you are not charging for your site, then not blocking is the way to go.
