I’ve had the same problem for about TWO weeks!

Thought the update to 4.3.1 would solve this but apparently it didn’t..

I really need to find a simple solution as well ??

I just realized that when I search for my images by month, I can see them. But from September, it’s just a grey file image.

Which means I could insert any old picture to a post, but nothing as of September. And It’s impossible to upload any new picture in my media gallery.

Don’t know if it’s the same for you?

Have you two checked to see if the wp-content/uploads folder is writable?
on most of my servers it works fine – but I have one web server (that is really locked down w security stuff) – that I need to maybe the /uploads folder 777 permissions in order for uploaded media to work

and with that one I needed to create a new folder like 2015/09
    and make that 777

of course if that works.. then try to make it less permissions – 755 – see if that works.. 644 – etc..

You might also check that the folder has the right “chowner” – sometimes your web server files will be “owned” by MyUsername
yet a script on the server may create a folder that is chowned by “scriptABC” – that can cause a write issue..

Also – have you two tried uploads with a different web browser? Some of my users are unable to upload when using chrome on a mobile device – but using mobile firefox on same device works fine… weird..

djsteveb, thank you for your answer, but all you’re saying is real Chinese to me. I chose WordPress and a Genesis theme (foodie), hosted on Bluehost, because I have NO knowledge WHATSOEVER in anything informatics…

It worked fine for over a year and now it’s all screwed even though I didn’t change anything. A lot of people are having the same Medialibrary problem since 4.3 and I feel wordpress should be fixing the problem, not us individually. And all I found is this “support” forum where most inquiries don’t even get answered…

And I did check on several web browsers on different computers and it didn’t change anything.

Any idea how a newbie like me could fix this? Thanks again!

I am In same Problem . Can not Upload Images ……And Also Can not Install Any plugins

    Hi all,

I also have had a problem with uploading pdf’s to the media library – it will upload them okay but at the attachment page the link to the pdf leads to a blank page simply reading “error”.
It isn’t a problem we have ever had before that I know of but I assume that we all have the same problem here? Hope someone can help

    Many thanks

I am able to upload artwork but now audio files. Any one out there from WordPress Assist?

I have the same problem. None of the Ajax thing in wordpress admin is working on site. If you look through Chrome’s developer console, there are lot of internal error 500.

The new posts are not getting saved automatically.
    Cannot Insert Images.
    Featured Image is not working.
    Spell check returns Error 500
    Cannot Create new categories dynamically.

Prior to 4.3 it was working fine.

    Hello,
    I have the same problem.
All AJAX order seems broken (list refresh, media library display) so i cannot insert any images into post anymore.
    Please help !

Here is one input, I would like to add. Last time I had this issue, It was the Protect feature in Jetpack that caused the trouble. When I turned it off, everything got fixed. If that helps anybody.

I had the problem too and found with a search:

wp-config.php had a random character before the opening php tag.

    mine was:

    ??<?php

removed the character and media started working again.

    Solved for me, good luck.

    Bug ?

I change permission on 777 from wp-content to folder uploads/09 and now works!
