wp super-edit not showing up

i have installed wp super-edit on an updated wp install with no other plugins and 2011 theme, but there is no display of visual editor buttons (it is also the latest install of the plugin). i tried uninstalling and reinstalling the dbs, but nothing. i am hosting on hostgator with php5. any ideas?
