    Hi, all –

I tried installing and activating WP Super Cache just now. It doesn’t appear to have worked. Specifically, there were no updates to my main .htaccess file, and the wp-content/cache/.htaccess file doesn’t exist (for that matter, the cache directory doesn’t even exist).

Also, step 9 in the installation instructions refers to an Apache configuration file, but doesn’t state the file’s name or location. Perhaps this is obvious to people who have more knowledge than I.

So, my question is: what’s the preferred course of action now? The installation instructions say that I can create the cache/.htaccess file, but they don’t make a similar statement about adding to the main .htaccess file. And, if I do these steps, how do I make them “take?” Would disabling and re-enabling Super Cache do it?

And, can I assume that these missing/incomplete files are all that went wrong with the installation, or is there something else I should be checking for?

Thanks for any help. If the plugin author is reading this, I might suggest that a bit of clean-up in the installation instructions may eliminate some of these (surely pesky) questions.

OK, now my site’s broken to boot. I think I’ve followed all the uninstall instructions. Images aren’t loading, and according to the page source, the image paths don’t match what I have in my Pages.

Behavior is a bit erratic, and inconsistent from page to page, but the right sidebar seems consistent in not loading images.

This is more than a minor problem at this point…can anyone help?

    Thanks.

    UPDATE:

Resetting the permalinks to the default, and emptying cache *seems* to have fixed this. I’m still not sure what happened, though…can anyone educate me?

OK…I’ve done a little more research. I don’t know whether anyone’s following my ramblings in this thread, but I want to make the information more current/correct.

The statement that super cache was breaking my image links was a red herring. The actual culprit was permalinks. Evidently, permalinks don’t like relative pathnames in Pages or sidebars. I’m not sure why this would be, but it seems to be the case.

So, as it stands now, I have permalinks “fixed”…I’ll return to why super cache wasn’t working shortly.
