• I have been wanting to embed Strava Rides for years now. I have given feedback to Strava for years too with no interest from them. Embedded Strava Maps with a Strava link would really help get the Strava brand on websites all over the internet.

I installed WP Strava 1.0 plugin but soon learned that the ride maps were only static maps not real tiling Google Maps. Because the maps are static and not zoom-able. In many cases, the maps are too small and street names are unreadable and therefore, almost worthless. It would be great if the maps worked just like the Google maps within your account on the Strava website.

Another issue… the maps created by this plugin are not responsive to different device width sizes. Fixed width (px) embeds are to be avoided with current web development.

Hell…. all I really want is an embed Google map URL and don’t think Strava’s staff is willing to give up this information. Bummer!

Thanks gordo… we could add “active” maps but making them responsive gets a little tricky. Usually the embeds are done with an iframe and we can make the width 100% and it will adapt, but the height needs to be explicit (and hopefully small-screen friendly).

Would you be willing to beta test some of these features?

    Justin…
    re: active maps
    That would be great.
    re: responsive maps
If the maps are active then the work to get them responsive would be worth it. My Google maps are wrapped in an iframe tag and respond to all device widths.
    re: beta test
    Sure.

I would be willing to test out this functionality also. The ‘active’ google maps for mobile users being able to click and pull the map up on their phone is super key! My friend owns a bike store and has not stopped talking about your app. He would very much like to use the maps and give you credit on his website. We live in a tourist/vacation area, so this would be huge for our bike shop and for riders all over.

Thanks for your response Justin, and looking forward to helping you make this a reality! Thanks for posting this review Gordo!

And, same as above re: responsive maps. If its an iframe code like embedded google maps, then we have css that can handle making it responsive. Seems like the 100% deal may be the best option from your development end, so that the map fits the container its being put in…?
