WP Statistics Overcounting visits/visitors?

  • Many thanks for this excellent plugin.

    I understand why there are differences in visit/visitor counts, but there’s such a large divergence on a new site of mine between your counting and that reported by Jetpack I thought I’d at least ask you if you can comment, and whether Jetpack is undercounting or you are overcounting.

    Here are stats for the last seven days. I show your count of visits/visitors then Jetpack’s count of views

    Day 1 21/30 1
    Day 2 8/10 1
    Day 3 8/12 1
    Day 4 21/220 8 (obviously an undetected bot)
    Day 5 10/12 1
    Day 6 12/17 2
    Day 7 2/2 0

    I can understand/accept some variation, but these numbers are so different I wonder which is more accurate and why the other is so different.

    This is a beautiful program, with lovely reporting, but it is destroyed by using invalid unreliable data.

    I see that your robot detection is so primitive/non-existent that even visitors reporting themselves as robots get counted in your total visit and page view counts.

    The non-existent support and response here – not just to my issue but to many other open unreplied support requests just makes things all the more regrettable.
