    Hi,
I am using WP-Smush on all my projects since forever and on every host.
I started to use for some big customers a new host where, doesn’t matter the wordpress version or the file permission setup, this precious plugin does not work. Every time I upload a new image, it is not processed – there is the button that says “Smush it now” but when I click on it nothing happens.
Same story when I try to “bulk smush” my pictures from the “Gallery” section: I click on “Start smashing” and all I have in a second is “Done” and the description line says “Some images have been skipped due to an error”, where really ALL the images have been skipped.
I am now in touch with the host support, can I have some detailed tech specifications about the server/environment requirements for this plugin?
    Thank you.

  • Hi @domenico.latosa,

There are no specific requirements, other than what WordPress needs, it does uses WordPress HTTP APi and performs file operations.

Does all the images happen to be more than 1Mb in size?

    What hosting you’re on?

    Cheers

    Hi,
all the images are below 1 mb – they are all around 2-300 kb.
My host is technehosting.com , Enhanced plan, you can see from the homepage the technical specifications. It’s a superlative host that offers the full package of features even within the base plan, so probably it’s simply a matter of settings.
I forwarded your answer to the support, I’ll let you know how to fix the issue, in case it can help someone else in the wp community.

Thanks @domenico.latosa, Post back, in case you need further help in here, would be happy to fix it for you.

    Cheers

I’m having the same issue. Bulk smushing says images were skipped due to an error. Individual smushing does nothing. My images are mostly less than 1MB. Please don’t tell me to use twenty fifteen theme (or whatever it is) and to disable all plugins and then test where the conflict lies….

I finally solved my issue removing any restriction to external connections from my host control panel.
It’s not an extra safe practice but now it works 100% fine.

Thank you! I didn’t remove restrictions to my outgoing connections, but I allowed the most recent two (after checking them on IP Lookup), and Smush is now bulk crunching. Cheers!

@domenico.latosa, @artefacts strange! I wasn’t aware that the hosting blocks the outgoing connections too.

Anyways, great to know that you were able to figure it out on your own.

    Thanks a bunch, cheers
