wp-smtp, error 500 but test email goes through

Hi,
While using either CF7, Jetpack contact forms or WP-contact form:
– with gmail
on CF7, the “spinning wheel” just spins, and after a while you get an error 500.
Test emails on WP-SMTP are OK.
No plugin collide with CF 7, and we tried to close the JS function on it, as well.
Any idea?
