• my site lives on a shared server (web hosting) and, as such, the shared mail server is subject to blacklisting on occasion

it is important that i receive mail sent by WP, and so my question is; how exactly does WP send mail? does it use the mail server for my domain, or does it use PHP? what can/should i do to be sure i get mail from WP, even if/when the domain mail server is blacklisted?

  • If you’re just worried about the system emails being sent to you, I’d try the below plugin with Gmail.

If you’re going to be sending many emails (ie newsletters) via the site, I’d try the below plugin with something like Elastic Email.

    thanks Josh
i was aware of the SMTP plugins, but am still not sure how WP sends mail

if the plugin is used, does that mean the domain mail server is not?

does WP use the domain server at all?

or does WP use php mail and, if so, is that separate from the domain mail server?
