WP Security (SPAM Comments)

  • Hello,

    I run a small website based on WP. Unfortunately, I am having lots of problems with spam comments advisting..silly stuff. I did disable the comments and I thought I was save from Spam! I do not know but they are getting through some how?

    Any idea what to do?

  • Look into Akismet (comes as part of WP 2.x) or Spam Karma 2. Couple either of those with Bad Behavior and you’ll be golden.

    All 3 are plugins and although I don’t have links handy you can google ’em up pretty quick. They’re popular!

    I beleive Akismet came with WP instaltion. However, I cannot enable as it is asking me for “API key”. I do not know where to find that key.

    Go to wordpress.COM (not here which is .org).
    Sign up for a free blog.
    Yes, that gives you yet another blog.
    No, you need not EVER use it. But that’s where you get the API key from.

    Thank you… I did as you advised and I activated the API key.

    Can I open the comments for registered users now?
