WP Running *very* Slow After Site Address Changed

  • Hey guys, I’m having issues with my site running very slow on a Windows server. I’ve been trying to fix this issue for over 2 days now and it’s driving me absolutely crazy.

    What I’ve discovered so far:

    1) Changing the site address OR adding pretty permalinks slows it down, other wise it is super fast.

    2) I’m only changing the site address from https://www.mediaconnectnow.com/wordpress to https://www.mediaconnectnow.com. I did this by copying the index.php file and changing the appropriate line.

    3) The pretty permalinks were set up using URL Rewrite Module, and the standard rewrite rule is being used in my web.config.

    4) When a page loads it uses a considerable amount of CPU processing when running php-cgi.exe. Memory is not an issue.

    5) When I turn off pretty permalinks and set my site back to the default https://www.mediaconnectnow.com/wordpress everything runs super fast again.

    Any ideas?

  • I called the address mediaconnectnow.com and it’s is taking me +10 seconds consistently to load the front page… I’m using a mac with firefox and the web utility, whichloadsfaster to come up with the number. It feels slow too…

    This is the server header response…

    Why is content length 0? I know that probably isn’t your problem… but it hints that something isn’t set up right… right?

    If I had to guess and I have no experience with your problem… it’s the caching module you have loaded that’s causing issues. What else would rev up the CPU time and send invalid content lengths?

    I had this problem even before installing wp-supercache, but I’ll turn it off to see if thats still an issue.

    Any other ideas?

    PS: That’s another point, even with supercache installed it’s still going slow, so clearly it’s not the page itself that is causing the problem.

    You are also using Plesk, and on GoDaddy?

    Normally the answer is to move to another host isn’t it?

    Maybe you are just on an “Unlimited” plan which could be different from a resources “GUARANTEED” plan… so maybe your CPU is being throttled?

    You are on 7… so… whatever happened between 6 and 7 is your problem most likely…

    But, it is probably a server issue, rather than a wordpress issue…

    Ok so I found a solution: switch to a Linux server. It’s only $5/ month with godaddy, so screw it =)
