WP Retina 2x WP Engine HTML caching

Well, bummer… Here’s where I’m at with this and WPE.

retina.js works on it’s own, but if I enable WPE’s CDN (cname masked to cdn.domain.com) it stops working even when I put on debug mode.

@tigroumeow – I noticed totorotimes is on WPE and has the same issue (CDN images never get served 2x).

Is there _any_ solution for this?

Seems like the plugin should have the ability to manually enter a CDN domain, or better automatically recognize it.

I tried picturefill on WP Engine it it doesn’t do anything whether debug mode is on or not. I’m assuming since picturefill is remotely hosted debug mode doesn’t actually do anything for that mode, but I haven’t actually looked into it.

Jon, PictureFill works with WPE, there is no problem. Can you try to use the debug mode, check your PHP debug files and the plugin debug file? You might see something in there…

With debug on I get this:

So, the log says the img tag is being replaced, but Chrome inspector is saying it’s not…

I tried this in Safari and Safari’s inspect shows the exact same thing as Chrome (ie. no srcset or @2x)

@tigroumeow – Just wanted to update you

I finally found the cause of my problems (sort of) and a fix.

After a lot of troubleshooting on local I went through disabling each plugin one by one. When I deactivated WordPress SEO, WP Retina 2X started working again on local.

Here’s the bizarre thing… I immediately reactivated WordPress SEO and WP Retina 2X continued to work on local.

Puzzled, I went to my live server. First I confirmed WPR2X still wasn’t working (the log said it was, but I was NOT seeing 2x images). I disabled WP SEO, immediately reactivated it, and now WPR2X is working and continues to work.

finally working on my end. i am not sure if related to wp seo plugin, but i also had the bj lazyload plugin enabled- which does not play nicely with hdpi images + cdn. working now using picturefill.

PictureFill is the way to go! ??
