WP not letting me log in

  • I have WP installed and hosted on 1&1 and the URL is registered on GoDaddy. We point the A-record to 1&1 and we keep use the GoDaddy name servers. Before this, we had it all on GoDaddy.

    Problem now is when I try to log in using Internet Explorer, it works fine. However in Google Chrome I go to my wp-admin and log in and it just reloads the login page and doesn’t take me to my dashboard. The address bar shows “Not Secure” because we are getting our SSL set up. The URL in the address bar also changes to:

    https://clackamasfire.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.clackamasfire.com%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1

    I have other sites where I have been able to log in on Chrome that aren’t secure. I’m guessing it has something to do with the redirect but I have no clue. Any help?

    The address bar shows “Not Secure” because

    Because it’s a page with a password field and it’s not SSL. The newer versions of Chrome don’t like that. On the other hand, it will not block one from logging in. The redirect is correct; it’s going to flip you over to the wp-admin page once you’re logged in.

    It may be that Chrome is holding some old cookies or cached copies of stuff that’s causing problems. Delete all cookies related to the site and clear Chrome’s page and history cache.

    I tried clearing my entire Chrome cache including browsing history, passwords, auto fills forms, etc. I then tried to log in again and it still doesn’t work. I even tried logging in as a different user in to WP and still no.

    I’m able to log in still to other WP sites I manage using Chrome with no problem.

    Do you get invalid user name or anything like that?

    No it just reloads the login page. Nothing about invalid user name or anything. I just tried it on my personal iPhone using Safari and it did the same problem. I tried it with my friend’s phone using Safari and it worked… very confusing.

    I think it may have to do with the URL or something. Just now I was using IE. I went to the WP general settings and changed the URL from https://clackamasfire.com to https://www.clackamasfire.com and now its doing the same thing it was doing with Chrome now in IE. Now I can’t get in to the site at all!

    Ummmmmmm ok no clue what happened but now everything works including Chrome login. Did what I did fix it????

    Shh…. back away slowly…. don’t blink. ??

    It may be that you had mixed WWW and non-WWW in the urls and that was confusing things related to cookies issued as the login is being processed. With consistent URLs, things are OK.
