• I have been trying for hours now to install WP with MySQL 8 on Windows Server 2012.

If I use the “Web Platform Installer 5.0”, that wants to download MySQL 5.1, which seems to fail during the install.

I am able to install MySQL 8 manually, but then there doesn’t seem to be a way (documented, that I can find) to get WordPress to work with it.

I’m a Mac guy so IIS is super foreign to me.

Is it possible to get WP to work with MySQL 8 and, if so, is there a documentation link that describes how to make that happen?

Unfortunately, MS’ Web Platform Installer 5.0 only seems to know about MySQL 5.1 for this install…

    Thanks much in advance,

  • Hi Morkus,

May I know first what’s your purpose? Are you trying to install WordPress on Windows Server 2012 because later you want to deploy it online, or is that you just want to install in a local environment (localhost).

    Thanks

Trying to set up a wordpress site on Windows server, if possible.

Use the Web Platform Installer to install the “Recommended Server Configuration for Web Hosting Providers”

You might get an error about not being able to install PHP Manager for IIS, that’s not a problem.

After it’s complete run the WPI again and filter on PHP, from there you can pick the latest version of PHP to upgrade to it.

Download and run the mySQL MSI installer for Windows, but use the link for “Looking for previous GP versions?” to get the 5.7.22 (or the latest pre-8 version).

This should leave you with a server ready for running WP. I think the WP instructions cover things from there.

Appreciate your reply, but from my original posting, I am trying to get this to work with MySQL 8.

I’m going to abandon this WP-on-Windows Server effort as it’s already taken hours of research (Windows!) and, instead, just install the WP site on Linux in a few minutes.

    Thanks again.

From what I’ve seen WP isn’t ready for mySQL 8 without some effort, hence my reply.

    I appreciate your follow up.

I had tried the Web installer, but it failed the dozen or so times I tried it.

Moving back to Linux for this site… ??

    Thanks again.
