Just like the title says, for some reason our “subscriber” users are not able to login anymore. Admin users still can, though. The error that’s populating says “Login Failed! You entered an invalid username or password. Click here to continue.” The continue link refreshes to the login page.

Anyone else having this issue, or know how to fix it?

Have installed any plugins that add a captcha or other elements to the wp-login.php page? If so, that’s the likely issue.

No, I have not. No new plugins have been installed.

As I mentioned, the most common issue is the use of a captcha on wp-login.php. These kinds of plugins change the WP authentication process to add a third parameter to be validated during login (the captcha) which causes the WP-Members front end login to fail since it only passes two of those.

There is a description of this in regards to SI CAPTCHA here. While the post is specific to that particular plugin, most of the plugins that do this operate in the same way and the cause and solution are the same.

Another less common issue is the use of additional plugins to activate users. I’ve seen some plugins such as WP Security that allow you to require users to be activated/approved through that plugin. Note that if you have WP-Members moderated registration turned on and you are approving users that way (through the Users > All Users screen), that doesn’t cover activation as far as the other plugin is concerned.

Basically, if you are using other security plugins, make sure you know what all of the settings are and what they actually do. Also, try testing without additional plugins enabled to see if you can isolate the issue.
