Wp-Mail-SMTP Stopped working after upgrade to WP 4.3

This plugin was working perfectly, up until I upgraded to WP 4.3. Now no emails are getting through. I tried it on a brand new site, using default 2015 theme and no other plugins active, still no emails. I’m sending all emails via SMTP, with no encryption.
I talked to my server guys, they ran a test on SMTP connectivity that was successful, so they believe the fault lies within WordPress, or the plugin – here’s their response:
“I have been able to log onto the console of the NBHXXXX (xxx.xx.xx.xx) server. Performed a test TELNET connection to NBHQXXXXX (xx.x.xx.xx) on port 25 to test SMTP connectivity. This was SUCCESSFUL. Bruce has indicated that the WordPress application was upgraded on Monday, and the email issue began sometime after this.”
And here’s the error in the debug log. ANY help would be appreciated.
2015-08-26 14:42:13 SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.
