wp-login.php blank after login

    I was running, perfectly fine, WordPress 2.3 on my website https://www.raconteurblog.net/wordpress . Then (as I had changed my mind on how my site would look) I wanted to make my blog the homepage. So I went into the options bit where you change where it is, saved the changes and things went all pear-shaped, really.

    Nothing would load, so I decided to reinstall WordPress. I exported the things in my database for it and cleared it. I thought that, at the same time, I might as well upgrade to 2.5. I uploaded all the files, installed it easily enough, but when you log in with the password it’s given you, it just stops.

    Trying to log in at https://www.raconteurblog.net/wp-login.php with an incorrect username or password will tell you it’s wrong, but the right username and password combination leads to a blank page with https://www.raconteurblog.net/wp-login.php still in the URL. Before it worked fine, so why did it change?

    Hmm. If anyone could help, I’d be grateful of them. ??

    I upgraded from 2.3.1 to 2.5 and I have the same problem accessing my admin via wp-login. When I login I just get a blank page.

    I got a comment on one of my articles from a user and I am now able to access the admin via my email with the comment link. And when I login via that link WP 2.5 works fine! But I still can’t access via the wp-login.

    Maybe you should try to send a reply on one of your articles and see if you can at least access your admin?

    I really don’t know what to do or where to look for an answer for this issue…

    I tried getting an install of 2.3.3 to wokr and had similar problems, tried the “post a comment” solution that someone else had posted on another solution thread and that did not work.

    Now I have reinstalled with 2.5 and cannot get either to work. posting a comment leads to a blank page as does using login.php

    Fixed. Basically, it was the wp-config.php file being fussy. I’m not sure exactly what it was, because I change a few things in one go. But I think it was because Notepad put an extra line break in where it shouldn’t have been.

    Go check that file again. Download a new copy of WordPress and edit that wp-config file.

    It turns out that the hosts I am using (110mb.com) has a web based file manager that allows editing and apparently it adds a new set of <html><header> etc. tags resulting in php files that generate blank pages.

    I edited the config.php on my own computer and then reuploaded and re-ran the installer and now things are working.

    I discovered that the reason for the blank page was I didn’t deactivate all my plugins before I upgraded.
    I had to reinstall WP2.3 and do it again. After I deactivated the plugins and then reinstalled WP2.5 everything was fine

    I tried to update the config.file as stupler wrote. I could then enter my dashboard via the login-page, BUT all my posts and files were gone! So now I am back to the ‘old’ config-file and I can enter my dashboard via the comments-link.

    I understand that the problem is the config-file, but I am still puzzled about exactly WHAT I have to change in that file.

    Can anyone help?

    Same issue..
    I redownloaded the sample-config.php file entered the info including the secret key renamed it uploaded it and still nothing…
    No clue where to go from here

    any ideas on how to fix this, this site is pretty much scuppered…
    I tried to back date to a previous release however the site gets totally wiped out if I do that.
    I tried every other option and still no access to the admin area of the site.
    We have about 35+ posters on the site and they’re starting to go elsewhere…
    If anyone has an idea that might work I’d be greatful! Thanks!

    GOT IT!..
    Had to login and manually delete the plugins directory.. but that got me back into the admin.. Sorry just couldn’t figure out how to disable the plugins without admin access LOL…

    It’s was a plug in comflict with me also.

    Renames plugin folder to something like pluginsOFF and then logged back in, then just renamed the folder back afterwards.

    I think my problem started when I had my servers upgraded.

    The same issue has happened to me some times. When I edit a plugin (or any other php file) from the file manager that comes with cpanel, it adds empty lines at the end of the file (after ?>).

    TO SOLVE THIS you only have to delete those empty lines.

    I was auto updating a plugin when suddenly my wordpress page became blank permanently. thanks for the easy solution. just by simply renaming the plugin dir on a temp basis i could login the WP account. ??
