Hi, I am using XP with WP 2.0.4.

Last night I updated and installed a number of plugins which I tested after each install.

When I went to logout my logout didn’t complete – it had “done” at the bottom of the IE screen, but I didn’t see my login page where I usually have to click on “return to blog” or something similar. I closed down thinking that I should be able to log back in today.

However when I try and login today, I can enter my username and password, but then the screen does the same as it did last night – I see “done” at the bottom of the IE screen – but I don’t get to my Admin area.

I have a totally blank screen, which when I view the source, has absolutely nothing in it.

You can create a new user, but when you try and login – you get a blank screen.

I have cleared cookies, thinking it could be a corrupt cookie, I have re-uploaded my wp-login.php, all to no avail.

How do I get my Admin area back?

    My site is at https://www.go.id.au

  • One of the plugins is almost certainly not playing nice. Deactivate them one by one, testing the login each time until you find the one whacking it.

My problem is that I can’t even get in to do that!!

Is there another way of getting access to the Admin area, sort off like a “safe mode”?

If anyway can assist, I can make a payment via PayPal for your assistance if you can get my Admin area back.

Access your blog folder using an ftp client, and delete the plugins from the plugin folder one by one, starting with the last one you installed. As you delete each one, try in another browser tab accessing your blog.

If I do this (remove all my plugins) I won’t loose any of my posts, pages, etc.

Nope. All of those are held in the database. Plugins can be deleted with impunity. It’s nice to have backups of the plugin distros on your drive, but generally (excepting redalt.com right now) they’re all available fairly easily.

Thanks for that – I’ll download a mirror, and then delete all plugins and install them again one by one.

Yep. Good idea, and just be sure to test thoroughly after each one.

Best of luck, let us know how it goes, okay?

Finally found the rougue plugin – it was “most commented post”, but not sure if it was the plugin that was at fault or whether it was the way in which I was trying to invoke it.

Anyway after the best part of 8 hours stressing out, my blog is finally editable again!
