WP Is Stuck On Failed Upgrade Error Message

    I tried to upgrade from 2.7.1 to 2.9.1. I installed the Automatic Upgrade Plugin and proceeded with the upgrade. Everything was going smoothly until this message popped up..
    You cannot upgrade because WordPress 2.9.2 requires MySQL version 4.1.2 or higher. You are running version 4.0.27.
    This message is locked on the screen with no options to return to WP. I left the screen and attempted to log back into my WP account and receive the same message above. How do I clear this and make the site available for me to log into again?

    What happens if you clear your browser cache and all cookies?

    Just cleared everything and reset Safari. Still get the same message. Contacted host who is supposed to be sending me information on a possible fix but her 3 minutes has turned into about 40 at this point. I need to get my site back up. People can read it right now but they can not listen to the podcast on the audio player there which hurts my numbers. Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

    Re-upload your saved files (from version 2.7.1). (Make sure not to overwrite your wp-content directory, just upload the rest of WordPress). Then, when your host has successfully upgraded you PHP version, you can auto-update.

    This will be my first attempt at trying to pull from a backup so forgive my ignorance. Will I be given a choice of files to overwrite or not overwrite at some point prior to re-upload? Thank you for any help.

    Also, in the current state, is this considered to be in maintenance mode?

    It depends on your ftp program. You shouldn’t be afraid to overwrite any of those files as I doubt you’ve made any changes to the core WordPress.

    If you’re worried about overwriting something, perhaps you should make a backup (in a different directory) for your current site. Then you would have both new and old in case you need to retrieve files from somewhere.

    I think your site would be considered to be in “Broken Mode”. If it’s in maintenance, it would state that when you go to the home url.

    I have used my backup file to take my db back to what it was prior to adding the plugin and attempting an upgrade. I checked the website and all of my original plugins are working again (audio enclosure, akismet, etc. When I type in the url https://mcnationpodcast.com/blog/wp-admin) to try to log in to my admin page, this is where it takes me https://mcnationpodcast.com/blog/wp-admin/upgrade.php?_wp_http_referer=/blog/wp-admin/
    What can I do to kill this and make my admin page accessible again?

    Fixed the problem. WordPress automatically finished the upgrade after I upgraded to mySQL 5.0
