I have installed wordpress on my website, and have created a database (I think) for wordpress. I have my ftp site up and running, and have been able to upload/download files from it.

I was told that in order to change the “theme/template” I would have to upload the template via ftp and go from there. I did that and it wasn’t recognizable via wordpress. I changed the numeric values so that it’d be write-enabled. Still nothing worked.

Basically I deleted directory of template, and am starting from scratch. I briefly browsed support seeing if i could find a how-to or a begginers guide, and haven’t had much luck.

This is my first attempt at anything web design related and have no knowledge of code, so I’m pretty much lost.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you

  • Looks like your WP site is up and running. Did you upload the theme to your wp-content/themes directory? That is where the themes need to be.

yes, I did that and it wasn’t showing up…I think I just did something horrible though because i checked my site, and it looks nothing like the default did.

Looks like you just changed to the Classic theme. Go back to your admin area and select the Presentation tab and click on the Default theme. This should change it back to what you saw when you initially installed. I think you are getting that error just because you have deleted all posts…make a post and see if things come back to normal.

nope I don’t have a presentation tab…maybe thats the problem. I only have a tab that says template, then a box for code, and then some links at the bottom.

It looks like you’ve installed WP version 1.2.1. You might want to delete that and upload a more recent version and start over. Newer templates will probably not work with that version.
