• Hello,
probably there is some installation instructions I don’t understand but I can get the browser to find and run install.php

The instructions on Step 4 read:
drag the folder to the htdocs folder, located under /Applications/MAMP. Then in the browser, go to localhost:port/folder_renamed to run the install. For example, in the default MAMP install, if the folder was renamed wordpresstest, go to localhost:8888/wordpresstest.

I copied the folder wordpress and all its contents to htdocs but when I point the browser there (using localhost:80/wordpress all I get is a blank page.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thank you

  • I’m not an Apple guy, so I cannot test this, but I have used another desktop web server that required a port number and think I recall a similar situation.

To verify my theory, please type https://localhost:8888/wordpress

Thank you jonradio. I tried but it doesn’t work.

I found a similar topic where the solution suggested is to reinstall all and keep passwords, ports and folders as per instructions and it works.

Probably I will soon have to as about how to change passwords or ports without knocking down the sole install but for the moment it works.

Thank you very much jonradio and forum.

As I say, I’m not an Apple guy, but I can say that XAMPP is a great alternative to MAMP if you ever run into difficulties with MAMP that you cannot fix.

I’ve used XAMPP in Windows a lot, and it runs on Linux and OS X, too.

    Thank you jonradio.
I have used XAMPP in the past and it is very good. although it quite some time ago.
    Thanks for your suggestions.
